(Macao, Apr. 19, 2015)- Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) invites Sun Entertainment Artist & Repertoire Manager Mr. Gary CHAN as a guest speaker pf a sharing session hosted at Stage at 4pm on April 19. As part of the themed events hosted by MACA in April to coincide with the World Intellectual Property Day, the sharing session is open to the public for free, with the aim to raise the public awareness on copyright issues, reinforce the public's respect towards composers and authors and ensure that their creative efforts are properly remunerated.
UNG Kuoc Iang, during his opening speech, explained the origin and mission of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). MACA, as the sole and operating music collective management organization registered in the Macao Economic Service, is striving for a goal similar to that of WIPO. It is to protect the rights of copyrighted musical works. UNG hopes that, through this activity, participants will understand more about the importance of copyright protection and the legal use of music so that music creators can rest assured that their works are protected and continue to create more works for the public to enjoy.
The main topic of the sharing session is on how ‘music makes a difference to our life’. CHAN is also a composer, arranger and producer himself, apart from working as an A&R manager. CHAN effectively introduced the topic from different perspectives by sharing his valuable experiences in producing and creating music. CHAN states, the evolution of the music sharing platform, for example, from offline to online, from downloading to streaming, etc. has changed the way of copyright protection. MACA Public Relations Manager Ms. Florence VAN explains the operation of copyright management organisation, which protects both local members and those of the affiliated societies. In fact, copyright protection and local music industry development are the two most important aspects of MACA’s work. The audience participates actively in the Q&A session, and the event was ended in a big round of applause.
Guests in attendance include the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau Centre Director SIT Fong Kio, the Macao Customs Service UNG Ka Kit and CHAN Ieng Kit, the General Association of Workers in Macau Vice Director of the Cultural Committee TAM Ming Kwong, the Breakthrough Association Chairman LEI Chon I, the Macau Deaf Association Project Executive FUNG Chi Ho, MACA Chairman UNG Kuoc Iang, and so on.
