• MACA Holds Copyright Funfair 2015 to Celebrate World IP Day

(Macao, Apr. 26, 2015)- MACA Copyright Funfair is hosted by the Macao Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) and co-organized by the Macao Economic Services and the Legal Affairs Bureau at 4pm on 26th April in the Iao Hong Market Garden. This annual event to raise the public awareness on intellectual property and music copyright protection is also sponsored by the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, venue-sponsored by the Official Provisional Municipal Council and supported by the Macao Deaf Association and Like Entertainment & Productions Co. Ltd.

MACA hopes, through the Copyright Funfair, that the public will understand more about the importance of copyright protection, the connection between intellectual property and every day’s life, as well as the relationship between music creators and collective management organization. Officiating guests include Macao Economic Services Head of the Intellectual Property Department CHENG Hio Man, the Macao Customs Services PUN Chang Un and NG Ka Kit, the Legal Affairs Bureau LAM Keong Chon, the Official Provisional Municipal Council PUN Ut Pan, the Macao Deaf Association Supervisor CHAN In Man, Macao Federation of Trade Unions WONG Kuoc Wai, the Macau Artistes Association President CHUI Chi Iong, the Macau Dreamworks Creator Association President Mark Lam, MACA Chairman UNG Kuoc Iang, Director Gary TOU and Director John HO.

UNG Kuoc Iang stated in his opening speech, the respect to music copyright is a key driving force to protect music copyright and to motivate music creators to create more music to be enjoyed by the public. Only if a system on a par with international standards is in place in Macao, the local music industry will have more sustainable development. Copyright protection is crucial for civility toward creativity. All musical works should be protected so that music creators can be comfortable to share their works with the public. Aiming to promote copyright knowledge and encourage the development of local music industry, MACA has also been organizing various events such as talks, seminars, song writers’ quests, and music festivals through the years.

During the Funfair, the Macao Economic Services and the Legal Affairs Bureau have information panels on display to educate the public on copyright issues, whereas MACA hosts copyright knowledge-related booth games alongside the Macao Deaf Association and Like Entertainment & Productions Co. Ltd. On stage, MACA and the Legal Affairs Bureau each host a Q&A session, and the audience participate eagerly. Local music creators and singers have also been invited for live music performance, including the Band Black Sheep, LEONG Kin Pong from Like Entertainment & Productions Co. Ltd., KWOK Pui Ling, LOK Chi Hin, and MACA member Olivia LEI. The events brings to the neighbourhood of Iao Hong an informative and interesting afternoon.
