• MACA Participated in the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee in Sydney

        (Macao, Nov. 30, 2015) – –The Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) International Affairs Manager Ms. Florence VAN and Licensing Officer Ms. Terry LEE attended the Asia-Pacific Committee (APC) meeting in Sydney, Australia. The three-day biannual meeting is hosted by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) from 25th to 27th of November in Sydney, Australia, with the goal is to tackle key issues confronting the Asia-Pacific region, such as the copyright law system and the development of collective management organization in the region.

     

        During the meeting, regional representatives update the recent developments and challenges in music licensing. Topics such as licensing broadcasters, satellite and cable operators are discussed in length, fellow musical societies express their concerns on the music usage in Macau. Above all, CISAC gives affirmations to the achievements of MACA, particularly on the recent development and expansion of licensing. MACA has successful licensed five gaming and entertainment business in Macao, and is actively communicating with local music users to raise the public awareness on copyright protection. MACA is also encouraged to seek assistance from developed societies if needed. As a matter of fact, MACA, together with FILSCAP and WAMI, have attended the training sessions organized by APRA prior to the meeting.

     

        27 representatives from the authors’ societies across the Asia-Pacific region joined, including APRA from Australia, CASH from Hong Kong, JASRAC from Japan, FILSCAP from the Philippines, KOMCA from Korea, MACA from Macau, MACP from Malaysia, MCSC from Mainland China, MCT from Thailand, MOSCAP from Mongolia, MÜST from Taiwan, SACENC from New Caledonia, and WAMI from Indonesia. More developed societies such as PRS from the United Kingdom, SACEM from France and SOCAN from Canada also attended as observers, to understand the current development in the Asia Pacific regions, as well as to present their latest advance and model for reference.
