(Macao, Sep. 22, 2015) The Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) visits the Macau SAR Government Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on 22nd September 2015. The delegates are received by Assistant Public Prosecutor General VONG Vai Va, Public Prosecutor WU Hio and Chief of the Judiciary Assistance Department U Kam to exchange views on the latest development of local music copyright management.
MACA receives a warm welcome from the MP Office. VONG Vai Va introduces the Office first, and highlights that both parties have a common goal to contribute towards the intellectual property domain. VONG suggests that MACA should do more to raise the public awareness on copyright issues; for instance MACA Copyright Funfair has successfully reached audiences of all ages and instilled music copyright knowledge in an interesting way. The Office may also seek MACA’s opinion to copyright related issues in the future.
MACA Chairman UNG Kuoc Iang relates the establishment of MACA, which aims to not only protect the intellectual property of the musical work of its local and overseas members, but also motivates them to create more music for the public to enjoy. MACA receives continuous support from the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC). Through CISAC, overseas musical societies have empowered MACA to represent their members in Macau. Hence, MACA has a worldwide music repertory which covers five continents including Europe, Australia, Asia, North America and South America. To encourage development of the local music industry, MACA holds annual events such as the Song Writers’ Quest and the Music Festival. Three charity albums published by MACA are also presented to the MP Office during this visit.
