• MACA Song Writers Quest 2016 Is Calling for Entries Now

          (Macao, Mar. 22, 2016)–The Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) held a press conference at the Reflections at Sands Macao on Tuesday, March 22, announcing the kick-off of the MACA Song Writers Quest 2016.

     

           Speaking at the press conference, MACA CEO Ung Kuoc Iang expressed his gratitude for the support from the Macao Foundation and Sands China Ltd.

     

           In its fourth year, the Song Writers Quest is MACA’s biggest annual event. The competition aims to contribute to the local music industry by helping and discovering local music talent to join the industry, and providing music creators with a platform to demonstrate their talents.

     

           MACA has announced its panel of celebrity judges for this year’s competition, comprising Schumann (Hong Kong composer, arranger and music producer), Gene Lau (Hong Kong lyricist), Leung Pak Kin (Hong Kong lyricist) and Chui Wai Yin (Hong Kong composer). Their professional opinions and constructive advice will be able to help the entrants make further progress in their musical careers.

     

           Fiona Choi, Event Planning & Membership Officer of MACA, informed the audience about the admission procedure and related terms. MACA Song Writers Quest 2016 is now calling for entries until 6 p.m. April 22, by which time entrants must submit a completed entry form and all supporting materials (including CD, score and lyrics without writers’ names) to the MACA offices (Alameda Dr. Carlos D’Assumpcao No. 258, Praca Kin Heng Long C10, Macau).            The judging panel will join forces to select eight songs from all the entries to enter the final round of competition, where they will be performed on Quest night, 2 July, at The Venetian Theatre. Seven awards will be presented: Winner, 1st Runner-Up and the 2nd Runner-Up for "The Best Song", Best Music, Best Lyrics, Best Performance and My Favorite Song. In addition, the eight final songs will be collected for MACA ALBUM VOL. 5, serving as a reward and an incentive for entrants.

     

           Winner of the Best Song and the Best Music of 2015, Pun Kuan Pou, together with Winner of the Best Song and the Best Lyrics of 2015, Chan Hou I, shared their experience with the audience. They commented that they gained a lot of professional opinions from the judge panel. All talent, whether professional or amateur, is encouraged to join the MACA Song Writers Quest 2016, potentially revealing new paths for entrants to pursue careers in the music industry. Let’s join the force to support original music.

     

           The guests in attendance include Annie Lam, senior manager of community affairs, Venetian Macau Ltd; Eagle Chan, executive director of Macau Artistes Association; Pun Kuan Pou, winner of the Best Song and the Best Music of 2015; Chan Hou I, winner of the Best Song and the Best Lyrics of 2015; Ung Kuoc Iang, CEO of MACA; Tou Chak Seng and John Ho, directors of MACA and so on.
