• MACA Participates in the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee (APC) Meeting

          (Macao, May 23, 2016)–The Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) Public Performance Licensing Manger Ms. Terry LEE and Musical Affairs & International Relations Officer Ms. Fiona CHOI attend the Asia-Pacific Committee (APC) Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand (MCT). The three-day biannual meeting is hosted by the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC) during May 16-18, with the goal to deliberate the current condition and trend of copyright law system. They also attend a training session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (MACP) on May 19-20.

     

          During the meeting, regional representatives report their operating situation, and discuss about the challenges in music licensing affairs. Representatives also share their experience of license application utilizing online music licensing regional cooperation. Obligations of performers in public occasions are also discussed. The developed societies analyze their daily operation under international convention, enabling the other societies to learn from them and make improvements.

     

          In general, CISAC gives affirmations to the achievements of MACA, particularly on the recent development and expansion of licensing focusing on the small and medium-sized enterprises. Besides, they commend MACA’s enthusiasm in communicating with local music users and raising public awareness on intellectual property through various events. As a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, the civil awareness and morality of Macau are gradually raised with the developing economy, while approaching the footstep of the developed countries. Following the meeting, MACA representatives attend a two-day training session in Kuala Lumpur (MACP), which indicated the great support by the affiliated society and brought positive influence to the development of MACA after the training sessions in London, Hong Kong and Sydney.

     

          39 representatives from the authors’ societies across the Asia-Pacific region joined, including APRA from Australia, CASH from Hong Kong, JASRAC from Japan, FILSCAP from the Philippines, KOMCA from Korea, MACA from Macau, MACP from Malaysia, MCSC from Mainland China, MCT from Thailand, MOSCAP from Mongolia, MÜST from Taiwan, VCPMC from Vietnam and WAMI from Indonesia, PRS from the United Kingdom, and ASCAP and BMI from the United States. Representatives from each society were sent to understand the current development in the Asia Pacific regions, as well as to learn from the latest advance and model of the developed societies.
