• MACA visits LOCPG MO to exchange views on the direction of development of music copyright management

           (Macao, April 5, 2017) Six representatives from Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA), including CEO UNG Kuoc Iang, Musical Affairs & Public Relations Manager Vivian KAM, Event Planning & Membership Senior Officer Fiona CHOI and other representatives, visited Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R. (LOCPG MO) on 5 April, and were received by Assistant Director-General of Department of Culture and Education SHAO Bin and Senior Assistant Director HE Gang.

     

        At the meeting, Assistant Director-General SHAO Bin expressed concern about the situation of the association, and gives affirmation to its work. He is happy to see that the awareness of intellectual property rights and music copyright continues to improve in Macau, and affirmed the support of S.A.R. government for the work of cultural and creative industries. With regard to the Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting which was once held in Macau, hosted by International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), SHAO expressed that he wishes to attend the meeting if it is held again in Macau in the future, in order to understand the development of copyright matters around the world. SHAO also advises the association to exchanges ideas with Mainland to understand the copyright management in both places, sharing the various opportunities and challenges encountered in the negotiation of license matters with regard to the copyright law in both places as well as the various situations that were faced during the business development.

     

           MACA CEO UNG Kuoc Iang briefed on the process of MACA’s establishment, which aims to provide legal protection in Macau and other countries and regions in terms of copyright and intellectual property rights for the musical works of its members. “One Belt, One Road” does not only cater to the need of China to further open up to the world, but also vigorously promote the building of Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, as for the development of the tourism industry, which involves the use of numerous musical works, to a certain extent, the awareness of intellectual property rights and music copyright protection need to be further improved. In addition, UNG presented the MACA Albums that were published in the past five years to Assistant Director-General SHAO Bin and Senior Assistant Director HE Gang. MACA has the assistance and support of CISAC, which is headquartered in Paris, France. More than two million composers and authors from numerous international music copyright collective management organizations have commissioned MACA to manage the public broadcasting and performance rights of their musical works in region of Macau, and covering six continents in the world.
