• MACA Participates in the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting & International Songwriting Camp

          (Taipei, Nov 2, 2017) – The Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) CEO Mr. UNG Kuoc Iang and delegates attend the Asia-Pacific Committee (APC) Meeting in Taipei (MÜST). The two-day biannual meeting is hosted by the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC) during Nov 1 to 2, with the goal to deliberate the development of Broadcast, Cinema and Karaoke regarding the music licensing affairs, and update the operation of the collective management organizations. On Oct 25 to Nov 2, three members of MACA attend MÜST International Songwriting Camp and share the fruit of making music. MACA delegates are supported by Air Macau.

     

          During the meeting, regional representatives report their operating situation, discuss about the challenges in music licensing affairs. With the cooperation of collective management organizations, solving challenges on music public performance and royalty distribution derived from the digital era. In general, CISAC gives affirmations to the achievements of MACA, particularly on the recent development and expansion of licensing, and the work of intellectual property protection since its establishment in Macau in 2009, CISAC and its affiliated societies have been paying close attention to Macau’s development on copyright affairs, especially the music usage of some industries, broadcast media, cinema and karaoke. CISAC also updates the Professional Rules and introduce the transfer of value.

     

          33 representatives from the authors’ societies across the Asia-Pacific region join the meeting, including APRA from Australia, COMPASS from Singapore, JASRAC from Japan, FILSCAP from the Philippines, KOMCA from Korea, MACA from Macau, MACP from Malaysia, CASH from Hong Kong, MCT from Thailand, MÜST from Taiwan, WAMI from Indonesia, PRS from the United Kingdom, ASCAP, SESAC and AMRA from the United States and KODA from Denmark. Representatives from each society are sent to understand the current development of music licensing in the Asia Pacific regions, as well as to learn from the latest advance and model of the developed societies.

     

          Meanwhile, the First International Songwriting Camp gathers more than 70 music creators worldwide in the form of lectures, sharing sessions and workshops to learn about music copyright and music creation during a week-long exchange. They are grouped to create over 60 different styles of music and perform them live, attracting music publishers worldwide for audition. About 35 songs are being onsite purchased. Three members of MACA, Ondina CHAN, Olivia LEI and Bobby LIO, attend the event, and take this opportunity to exchange their creative experience with the music creators around the world as well as to share the fruits of the new creation.
