On 17 February 2011, MACA Chairman Yan Ung, Executive Manager Rain Chang and Licensing
Support Officer Hera Kou visited Cultural Affair Bureau of MSAR Government. They were warmly
welcomed by Chief of Cultural and Creative Industries Promotion Department Chan Peng Fai,
Senior Technical Advisor Mandy Pang and other representatives. MACA hopes to strengthen the
communication and cooperation with Cultural Affair Bureau on music copyright issues and local
music development and also obtaining valuable opinion from Cultural and Creative Industries
Promotion Department.
During the discussion, MACA presented a short video to Cultural Affair Bureau representatives, which briefly introduced the importance of music copyright and daily operation of MACA. MACA works on the goal of promoting copyright awareness in Macau, enhancing public respects for music composers and promoting intellectual property rights to new generation. Two parties discussed about Legal issues of copyright and local music development. Cultural and Creative Industries Promotion Department asked about the collection and distribution situation on licensing fees, also in-depth understanding of member ship and assistance to members on legal procedures.
Chan said, copyright protection is one of the most important elements of cultural and creative
Industries. He hopes to enhance the communication and cooperation with MACA, so as to promote the development of local cultural and creative Industries.
Ung revealed that when considering the set up of MACA, MACA should first pass a lengthy scrutiny from CISAC before it can legally operate in Macau. Meanwhile, although MACA gets a full support from CISAC, full cooperation from various Macau government departments is also important to
scale new heights on Macau cultural industries.
