• MACA Holds General Assembly & Annual Dinner 2019

      (Macau,15 Feb, 2019)— The Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) holds the General Assembly and Annual Dinner on Friday, 15 Feb 2019, at 7:30 pm at Hotel Okura. During the meeting, Chairman of the Board of Directors, UNG Kuoc Iang, reported the affairs of the Association, the financial conditions and results of the work to the members.

     

      UNG summarized the application and renewal status of the Association’s 2017 public performance license in Macau. To protect the copyright of musical works, the association has organized various promotional activities such as “Copyright Funfair”, “Song Writers Quest”, “MACA Music Scholarship”, “Studio Workshop”, “Copyright Campus Tour” and “MACA Album” etc. to enable the public and music users widely be aware of the work of the Association. In addition, MACA will also start to promote the original orthodox music in 2019. Through these activities, the understanding of music copyrights by Macau citizens will be strengthened. In addition, the Association encourages local creation and the new generation to learn more about music. MACA hopes to enhance the overall music creation level of Macau and the development for the music creators, so that the cultural and creative industries of Macau can be further developed.

     

      MACA has 92 local composer and author members and 6 local publisher members, and over 2 million music creators from 110 countries and territories which includes, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, Korea, Singapore, Japan, the US and the UK etc. MACA at present controls the copyright of musical works created by local and overseas affiliated society’s members under the copyright law of Macau.

     

      Ung also explained the status of music license application of public performance and the guideline of royalties’ distribution. In addition, representative from the Supervisory Board stated that the opinion from the Independent Auditor - Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, that the accounting system of MACA is compliance with the Macau SAR financial reporting standards, authentic, objective and clear reflection of the financial situation and the regulations of the article of association. More than sixty members joined the meeting.

     

      At the end of 2019, MACA will celebrate its 10th anniversary. With the support of the Macau SAR government, the public and the community, the music copyright affairs of Macau have been rapidly developed in the past 10 years. The work of the MACA has also been endorsed and supported by CISAC and the overseas affiliated societies. In future, MACA will continue to work hard to promote Macau's copyright awareness and actively promote the continued development of music copyright affairs and local music creation with the concept of "Respect Copyright Enjoy Music Life".
