• MACA Participates in the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee Online Meeting

    (Macau, November 24 & 25, 2021) " – The Asia-Pacific Committee Online Meeting, hosted by the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC), is held on 24th and 25th November. Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA) and representative attended the meeting. The meeting focuses on hosting online music events under the COVID epidemic, and the management of corresponding copyright affairs.

     

    During the meeting, representatives from CISAC introduce the updated upgrade progress of the global musical works management system. Various territories report the latest situation on online music events in the Asia-Pacific region and the corresponding copyright management. They also analyse the use of music on different types of online platforms, and discuss how to improve the communication strategy between the member societies of the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee, promote the development of music license affairs, and cooperate to improve the efficiency of royalty distribution.

     

    Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of MACA says that the usage of music in new media has been increasing in recent years, and the music copyright issues have been drawn attention to. At present, MACA has reached license agreements with some new media platforms. MACA will continue to negotiate with various new media platforms, strive to allow more digital music platforms to operate in Macau, and clarify related copyright issues. Moreover, MACA will continue to raise the public’s awareness of protecting intellectual property rights and music copyright in Macau.

     

    50 representatives from the authors’ societies across the Asia-Pacific region joined the meeting, including APRA from Australia, COMPASS from Singapore, JASRAC from Japan, FILSCAP from the Philippines, KOMCA from Korea, MCSC from Mainland China, VCPMC from Vietnam, MOSCAP from Mongolia, MACA from Macau, MACP from Malaysia, CASH from Hong Kong, MCT from Thailand, MÜST from Taiwan, WAMI from Indonesia, IPRS from India, PRS from the United Kingdom, ASCAP and BMI from the US, SOCAN from Canada. Representatives from each society attended the meeting to understand the current development of music licensing in the Asia-Pacific regions and share the experience of promoting music copyright.
