• MACA Participates in the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting Discussing the Copyright Management in the Metaverse Era

(Seoul, November 2 to 4, 2022) – The Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting, hosted by the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC), is held on 2nd and 3rd November. Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA), together with 40 representatives in person and 16 online representatives from 20 territories attended the meeting. The meeting focuses on copyright management in the metaverse era.

At the meeting, the CISAC representatives introduced that in the metaverse era, with the rapid development of frontiers technologies, the dissemination of musical works will be more diverse and faster, the audience that can be reached is broader, and the trading market of musical works will be more convenient. The development of the entire music industry has a far-reaching impact on the cultural industry. The copyright protection model derived from the big data environment has been changed accordingly, with higher standard for the computer system for the musical works identification and royalty distribution, and the legal provisions related to the copyright management of new media such as the Internet and digital platforms are constantly updated.

Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of MACA says that Macau is recovering gradually in the post-covid era. In line with the policy direction introduced by the central government, it will help the recovery and development of tourism and cultural industries. Various types of music will be used in the subsequent activities, coupled with digital platforms. And the wider use of social media will surely drive the development of music copyright affairs. At the same time, MACA is actively negotiating with new media platforms and Macau local music users, and continues to promote the importance of obtaining authorization from the music copyright holder before using music, fulfilling the rights conferred by Macau copyright law and international conventions, and raising public awareness of protecting copyright.

Besides, Mr. Ung attends Creators’ Seminar hosted by the Asia-Pacific Music Creators' Alliance(APMA), discussing the study on legal provisions of copyright buyout and private copying levy together with attendees from around the world.
