(Macau, 22nd April, 2023) The “Copyright Funfair 2023” hosted by the Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) was held on the 22nd April, 2023 (Saturday) at 4:00 pm at Iao Hon Market Park, in Macau. The event was co-organized by the Macao Economic and Technological Development Bureau, Macao Customs Service, Municipal Affairs Bureau, Comissão Cultural da Associação Geral dos Operãrios de Macau, União Geral das Associações dos Moradores de Macau Centro Actividades Pak Vai and the Macau Deaf Association making the event more meaningful and successful.
MACA has been supporting the development of local music creation and has organized various activities to raise citizens' awareness of respecting music copyright, understanding the process of creating music, and learning how to use music legally. UNG Kuoc Iang, the Chief Executive Officer of MACA gave a speech and mentioned that this year is the 30th anniversary of the promulgation of “Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China”. It is also the 14th anniversary of the establishment of MACA. It provides comprehensive legal protection for various businesses in the Macao Special Administrative Region, including the intellectual property rights. MACA will continue to promote the importance of intellectual property and music copyright in Macao. At the same time, in response to the theme of this year's World Intellectual Property Day "Women and Intellectual Property: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity", MACA will share copyright knowledge with the public from different aspects. Through this event, MACA cooperated with the Intellectual Property Departments of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau and the Macao Customs by displaying boards with the knowledge of intellectual property rights and simple pictures and words to promote the law to the public.
During the event, there are different programs for citizens to participate, including abundant and interesting booth games that can let the participants understand more about the importance of intellectual property rights. At the same time, there are live music performances on the stage. Some of the musical works performed are the excellent original music from the "MACA Music Scholarship 2023". In addition, the question-and-answer session on legal knowledge also attracts the audiences to participate and support enthusiastically. Through the event, MACA calls on local music users to play more local music, encourages local musicians to create more music, let local music to go out of Macau so that the local creations have more opportunities for development.
