• MACA Participates in the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting and Training Discussing the AI Licensing

    (Bangkok, May 9 to 12, 2023) – The Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting and Training, hosted by the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC), is held from 9th to 11th May. Mr. João Gomes, the chairman of Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA), Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of MACA and representative, together with more than 50 representatives from over 20 territories attended the meeting. The meeting focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence on copyright management.

     

    At the meeting, representatives of CISAC introduced that AI technology is penetrating into the music industry gradually, bringing more opportunities and challenges to music copyright management. While improving the quality and quantity of music works, faster and more accurate identification of music works and the operation of the royalty distribution system are required. Copyright laws in other territories have also been updated accordingly to improve the copyright management of new media such as the Internet and digital platforms.

     

    Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of MACA said that Macau is putting effort on promoting tourism and cultural industries, economic activities are recovering, and various festivals and music events are also being carried out closely. Therefore, MACA is stepping up efforts in promotion and education on the importance of obtaining authorization from the music copyright holder before using music, fulfilling the rights conferred by Macau copyright law and international conventions, and raising public awareness of protecting copyright.

     

    João Gomes, the chairman of MACA attended Creators’ Seminar hosted by the Asia-Pacific Music Creators' Alliance(APMA) on 12th May, discussing the Value of Music in Digital Era and the study on Music streaming market. The representative of MACA also attended the CISAC training session, introducing the music copyright authorization procedures in Macau and sharing work experience to newly established collective management organizations from other countries and territories.
