• MACA attended the 9th China International Copyright Expo

    (Chengdu, Sichuan, China, 23-25 November 2023) – “The 9th China International Copyright Expo (referred to as the "Copyright Expo") is hosted by the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC), Sichuan Province Copyright Administrative Bureau and General Office of Chengdu Municipal People's Government. The Copyright Expo will be held at the Western China International Expo City in Chengdu, Sichuan, China from November 23 to 25. Mr. João Gomes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MACA, Ung Kuoc Iang, CEO of MACA and representatives were invited by NCAC to attend the Copyright Expo.

     

    This event focus on “Copyright New Era Empowers New Development”, including representatives from over 30 countries and regions, 31 provinces (cities and districts) in China, 3 national copyright innovation and development bases, 18 copyright demonstration cities, more than 20 industry leading companies participated in the exhibition, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) also attended the event. The Copyright Expo is highlighted by its wide range of exhibitors, large exhibition space, multiple industries covered, and rich supporting activities. The copyright trade cooperation platform was established internationally and domestically for the first time. It is also the first time that the national leading exhibition and a local authorized exhibition are held at the same time.

     

    The "2023 International Copyright Forum on the Role of Copyright and Creative Industry in the Creative Economy: New Visions and Opportunities " hosted by NCAC and WIPO was also held during the Copyright Expo. The Forum consists of main forum and sub-forums. The main forum focused on the role of copyright in promoting the high-quality development of cultural industry as well as the growth of business in new fields and new forms. The sub-forums focused on exploring the new areas and patterns of strengthening copyright protection and trade cooperation between China and other countries, and updating the laws, policies, and practices of copyright protection for traditional culture in China and abroad. Leaders from WIPO and departments in charge of copyright of member countries, as well as representatives of important domestic and international cultural enterprise, internet companies and research institutions attended the forum.

     

    In the subforum "Copyright Empowers Cultural Inheritance and Development”, Mr. João Gomes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MACA, shared the protection of traditional culture and art in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries. Mr. João Gomes said that the setting up of the commercial and trade co-operation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries is a significant measure for Macao to give full play to its strengths and contribute to the country’s development. Macao has always maintained friendly and cooperative relations with China, Hong Kong, and various overseas associations, promoting the development of intellectual property and music copyright together, fully protecting the rights and interests of music creators and realize the maximum value of copyright in the creative economy. Macao will continue to function as “one center, one platform” and implement relevant policies and measures to accelerate moderately diversified development. MACA representatives also attended training meetings for African countries, and introduced Macao’s music copyright licensing procedures and shared work experience.
