MACA 15th Anniversary Event Series – Thirty years of silence, Beyond’s Story 3.0 Plus

(Macau, 19 Feb. 2024) – The Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) held the "MACA 15th Anniversary Event Series - Thirty years of silence, Beyond’s Story 3.0 Plus" on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 7:30 PM. The event took place at Bookand (Block B, G/F, No. 4B The Premier Court, Macao R. de Inacio Baptista). Mr. Lau Cheuk Fai shared his lyric-writing experiences and introduced his new book " Thirty Years of Silence, Beyond's Story 3.0 Plus". He shared stories of his over thirty years of acquaintance with the iconic Hong Kong rock band Beyond. The event also invited Composer, Lyricist & Music Tutor Mr. Joe Lei, as well as Macau Scholar and Cultural Critic Mr. Lei Chin Pang as guest speakers.

In the opening speech at the event, Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of MACA stated that this year marks the 15th anniversary of MACA's establishment. Over the past years, MACA has consistently advocated for music composition, safeguarded music copyrights, and encouraged more people in Macau to create outstanding musical works. Simultaneously, MACA aims to increase awareness and appreciation of original Macau music among a broader audience. The event strives to achieve this by facilitating the sharing of experiences from seasoned music composers, allowing individuals interested in music composition to learn professional knowledge and enhance their creative skills. Additionally, it seeks to reinforce the general public's respect for music copyrights.

Lau Cheuk Fai, the lyricist for the band Beyond, has created well-known pop songs such as "Love," "The Earth," "Grey Tracks," "Years of Friendship," "Willingly Replacing You," and "Years Like a Song." The book "Beyond's Story 3.0 Plus" is originally a musical work’s name by Beyond. Lau Cheuk Fai shared his rich experience in lyric composition during the event, and engaged in a deep discussion with Joe Lei and Lei Chin Pang. The event also featured a segment in which the audience had the opportunity to ask Lau Cheuk Fai questions face-to-face, gained insights into the techniques and stories behind his creations, as well as traced Beyond's musical journey together to appreciate the poignant melody of the silent years.
