(Macau, February 23, 2024) Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) held General Assembly & 15th Anniversary Celebration Dinner on February 23, 2024 (Friday) at 7:30 pm at IFTM Educational Restaurant to celebrate the 15 years of the establishment of MACA. Attendees of the event included Mr. Benjamin Ng, the Regional Director for Asia-Pacific of International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC); Mr. João Gomes, the chairman of the Board of Directors of MACA; Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang, the CEO of MACA; members of the MACA Supervisory Board and the MACA General Assembly; MACA's legal representatives and MACA members.
During the event, Mr. Benjamin Ng gave a speech and expressed MACA as a member of CISAC, has been maintaining a good relationship with other overseas associations over the past fifteen years and continues to develop and promote the development of music copyright in Macau. After that, Mr. João Gomes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MACA thanked the government departments, organizations, CISAC, overseas associations, and all members of MACA for their support and recognition of MACA’s work which has contributed to the success of these fifteen years. Although MACA has gone through a difficult epidemic period for three years. However, MACA has insisted on distributing music royalties every year and has done its best to maintain the royalty income for its members. MACA has been organizing different kinds of activities, such as the “Copyright Funfair”, the “MACA Music Scholarship Award Ceremony”, the “MACA Song Writers Quest”, the “Copyright Campus Tour” and the “MACA Pop Music Master Class” etc. MACA is committed to encouraging the development of local music creation by providing a platform for learning about music creation and performance. In the coming year, MACA will strengthen exchanges and cooperation with music creation in the Greater Bay Area by organizing activities such as the “Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area Collective Management of Copyright in Musical Works Forum” and the “Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area Song Writers Quest”.
In addition, Mr. Ung Kuoc Iang, CEO of MACA reported on the recent developments and achievements of MACA and summarized the current status of applications for public performance rights in musical works and the criteria for allocating royalties in Macau. Finally, the members voted unanimously to approve the report of the Board of Directors, the financial report, and the report of the Supervisory Board. At the same time, Mr. Ung said that under the foundation of Macau's copyright system, MACA is managing the musical works of more than two million overseas members who are from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom etc. A stage performance was held at the event to provide a platform for MACA members to showcase their talents and share their original works, many members enthusiastically signed up to participate, which made the dinner even more colourful.
In 2024, MACA will celebrate its 15th anniversary, the association is looking forward to continued support from the SAR government, the citizens, and all community sectors that has enabled Macao’s music copyright affairs to develop rapidly. In the future, MACA will continue to promote the sustainable development of music copyright affairs and local music creation while insist to the concept of “We Write We Sing For A Brighter Future”. MACA also calls on all music users to jointly support the development of music copyright while building a "City of Performing Arts" in Macau, the music works can be played or used publicly after legally obtaining a music license.
