(Seoul, May 27-31, 2024) The general assembly, Asia-Pacific committee meeting, and governance training organized by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) were held in Seoul, South Korea from May 27th to May 31st. Representatives from the Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) attended the five-day conference to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence technology on the music creation industry and the development plans for emerging copyright regions.
Coincidentally, this CISAC general assembly also marked the 60th anniversary of the Korean Association of Music Copyright Administrators (KOMCA). The event brought together over 200 representatives from more than 70 member societies across the Asia-Pacific, North America, Latin America, Europe, and Africa. During the conference, CISAC summarized past work and introduced updates to the global works database functionality, as well as the latest review system for member association operations.
At the CISAC Asia-Pacific committee meeting, representatives from various countries provided updated reports on music copyright management in the region. They discussed ways to assist newly established collective management organizations in their initial efforts, aiming to enhance comprehensive management and protection of musical works across more countries and regions. CISAC acknowledged MACA’s work over the past fifteen years, particularly their continuous efforts in promoting education related to intellectual property protection in Macau. CISAC remains committed to supporting music copyright development in Macau, and member societies expressed concern about the use of music works from their respective countries and regions in Macau.
In response to global trends in intellectual property development and member societies operations, CISAC updated its professional rules. During the training, CISAC representatives introduced the professional rules that member societies need to adhere to, ensuring better alignment with global developments and increased transparency in societies’ operations.
Additionally, MACA participated in the Asia-Pacific Music Authors Alliance (APMA) meeting and the working meeting with music copyright societies from the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions, further strengthening communication and collaboration among countries and regions."
