(Kuala Lumpur, December 4-5, 2024) The Asia-Pacific committee meeting and training organized by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from December 4th to 5th. Representatives from the Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) attended the events to discuss how to prevent inaccuracies or omissions in the registration process of musical works, and the implementation of copyright licensing for musical events.
At the CISAC Asia-Pacific committee meeting, 50 representatives from 20 territories provided updated reports on music copyright management in the region. A representative from CISAC's Works Data Management Department stated that as the number of musical works globally continues to increase, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of data during the registration process is crucial for improving the efficiency of royalty distribution. Additionally, CISAC is highly concerned with the implementation of copyright licensing for musical events. Currently, concerts worldwide significantly boost the economic benefits of their host territories. While organizing concerts and other musical events, it is essential to protect music copyrights to ensure creators receive fair remuneration. Regarding the development of copyright in Macau, CISAC and various societies are pleased to see new performance venues being put into use and will continue to focus on the use of musical works in existing and new venues in Macau.
During the meeting, CISAC held a training on concert and broadcasting licensing for newly established music copyright societies. MACA was invited to introduce the music copyright licensing procedures in the aforementioned industries at the training, sharing MACA's 15 years of experience, and received unanimous recognition from the attendees.
Additionally, MACA attended the Asia-Pacific Music Creators Alliance (APMA) meeting, where they discussed the importance of copyright protection in promoting music creation with the Malaysian government's intellectual property department and local music creators.
