(Macau, February 13, 2025) –Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA) held General Assembly & Annual Dinner on February 13, 2025 (Thursday) at 7:30 pm at The Rust Restaurant (Holiday Inn Express Macau City Centre, an IHG hotel, 3 Floor) to encourage music creation. Attendees of the event included Mr. Benjamin Ng, the Regional Director for Asia-Pacific of International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC); members of the MACA Supervisory Board and the MACA General Assembly; MACA's legal representatives and MACA members. During the dinner, MACA members gathered together, and some of them showed their talents and shared their original music works, which made the dinner eventful.
During the event, Mr. Benjamin Ng remarked in his speech that MACA has been actively maintaining good relationships with affiliated foreign societies and promoting the development of music copyright in Macau. MACA, together with the Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC) and the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (CASH), successfully organized the “2nd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Collective Management of Copyright in Music Works Forum” in Macau in 2024, which was supported by the National Copyright Administration of China and various government departments in the three regions. The collective management organizations will continue to protect the rights of music creators and encourage Macau music creators to create more original music works.
In addition, the board representative of MACA also reported the achievements of MACA's events, which have fostered the development of local music creation through organizing various activities. After that, he thanked the government departments, organizations, CISAC, affiliated foreign societies, and all members of MACA for their full support and recognition of MACA’s work which has contributed to the success of these sixteen years. In order to strengthen the cooperation in music creation in the Greater Bay Area, MACA will organize events such as the “Guangdong- Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Song Writers Quest” this year, aiming to facilitate cross-regional cooperation in music creation, enhance the international influence of music creation of these three regions, and strengthen the community's concern for music copyright protection. Despite holding various events, MACA also insists on distributing music royalties annually to ensure that music creators receive a reasonable royalty income. The board representative of MACA summarized the current situation of music copyright licensing and the distribution of royalties in Macau.
Finally, the members voted unanimously to approve the Report of the Board of Directors, the Financial Report, and the Report of the Supervisory Board. In the future, MACA looks forward to continued supports from all parties of the community and will continue to promote the sustainable development of music copyright affairs and music creation while insist to the concept of “We Write We Sing For A Brighter Future”. MACA also calls on all music users to jointly support the development of music copyright while building a "City of Performing Arts" in Macau, and welcome to consult with MACA on music copyright issues before playing or using music in public.
