During the discussion, MACA briefly presented its daily operation and mission, the authorized
management with overseas afflicted societies, the standard of establishing tariffs, and future
development. MACA aims at promoting Macau copyright enhance the public’s respect of music
and promoting intellectual property right to new generation.
Ng Kuok Heng appreciated the establishment of MACA as a platform of communication between
composers and users, which filled the vacuity of music copyright issues of Macau. Besides, he also
asked about the difficulties MACA currently faced on operation. He agreed that MACA need to
have more support and time so as to acknowledge and adapt by the public and music users. He
also said that long before MACA was established; there were some international brands shop and
casinos asking Macao Customs regarding the way to apply for copyright license.
Ian Chan Un inquired the use of musical works on matters relating to customer inquiries which
MACA replied that they are willing to provide consulting services on related matters.
Yan Ung pointed out that copyright collection will affect every composer’s daily income. On the
other hand, music users actually related to every Macau citizens. Therefore, MACA will strengthen the communication with music composers, institutions and high schools so as to
promote awareness of copyright in Macau. Besides, MACA also hopes to organize talks on
“Respect music, maintain copyright” with secondary schools in Macau in future.
